Programme of Events

The programme of events at Summerhill will operate on a phased basis following the building programme and will develop as the building progresses and more resources are available. The farm will act as a ‘green classroom’ and will form an integral part of all events and activities. Courses and activities planned will cover the following areas:

  • Educational programmes and experiences for primary and secondary pupils, individual groups, including the visually handicapped and hard of hearing, as well as members of the public
  • Courses and demonstrations for university and HE/FE students
  • Skills training for farmers, smallholders, land-owners and new entrants into farming
  • Wildlife conservation and heritage projects
  • Promotion of new Community Supported Agriculture initiatives
  • Signposting and advice
  • Network and mutual support links with other organisations
  • Public awareness campaigns directed at consumers to help develop an understanding of the problems facing British agriculture, especially the plight of the small family farmer
